When Titanic was launched, it became the world's largest ship at its heaviest. 14 April, 1912: 23:39: An enormous iceberg is spotted by Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee from Titanic's lookout tower. Officer William Murdoch puts the ship's propellers to full stop and gives the command 'Hard to starboard', but they fail to avoid the iceberg. Titanic only has 37 seconds to react from the moment the iceberg is spotted until they hit it. 02:20: The Titanic disappears below sea level, leaving over 1000 people in the icy sea. Around 500 are believed to have never made it out of the ship.
